"Cipla Foundation has secured funding from the US Government from the US president's Emergency Plan for Aids Relief (PEPFAR), through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on 4 November.

The aim is to expand the national footprint of the patient-centric Central Chronic Medicines Dispensing and Distribution (CCMDD) programme. The funding follows the successful roll-out of five CCMDD pick-up point facilities across KwaZulu-Natal.

Paul Miller, CEO of Cipla South Africa, parent body of the Cipla Foundation, said a National Department of Health initiative, the CCMDD programme, aims to improve access to chronic medication for stable patients who are dependent on the public sector. While the programme is already well established in South Africa, with about 1.9 million patients enrolled, this partnership with USAID will grow the Cipla Foundation CCMDD network of five units to 50 units over the next two years."
